TO PARENTS / GUARDIANS OF ALL STUDENTS

16 January 2019

Dear Parent / Guardian

I am writing to inform you of the programme for our first Drop-Down Day of the academic year, which takes place on Friday, 25 January.

Drop-Down days are an important element of our school learning journey as they allow our students to find out more about a particular aspect of the curriculum.  During Drop-Down days, rather than study their normal, time-tabled lessons, students take part in assemblies and activities that are designed to be enriching, though-provoking and engaging.

The theme for the first of our three Drop-Down days this year will be Citizenship, British Values, Respect and Tolerance.  Throughout the day, our Key Stage 3 students will take part in lessons which include learning about democracy, government, the liberties that we enjoy as British citizens, the role that public institutions play in Britain and the importance of respect, tolerance and working together as communities.

At Key Stage 4, our students will also learn about the electoral and legal system in the UK and forms of government in the UK and abroad, human rights and international law and the inter-relationship between concepts common to all people, such as peace and justice, poverty and wealth, prejudice and equality.

We very much hope that your child enjoys the day and gains a deeper understanding of an important element of these extremely important topics.

Yours faithfully
