Dear Parents/Carers,

New Home Learning Policy

I am writing to draw your attention to the new Home Learning Policy, which replaces our Homework Policy.  As a school, we are committed to continual improvements to enhance the learning experience for our students; the changes to this policy, based on recent academic research are designed to assist our students to make the maximum amount of progress possible during their time at Brighton Hill Community School.

The policy, which can be found on our website, places a greater emphasis on the students taking accountability for their own learning.  Too often, ineffective sanctions are set for incomplete homework, when the real sanction should be that the student has not learned the knowledge they need to reach their potential.  The purpose of the change to our Home Learning Policy is to encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and to educate them that home learning is not simply set as an additional task which is separate to their lessons, but rather that it plays a critical role in developing and reinforcing their knowledge and skills in order to enhance their progress over time.

A summary of the changes is as follows:

I hope that you will welcome these changes to secure best outcomes for your children and I thank you for your continued support as we strive to ensure the best possible education for our students.

Yours sincerely

Mr C Edwards
